“It’s a Bad Hair Day”

“It's a Bad Hair Day”

emotionally speaking

feelings sticking out all over

unruly

uncooperative

ignoring stern lectures about manners

and my side eye

as I jam them under a hat

they protest indignantly

broadcasting their messiness

stomping about harumphing

pouting like too much botox.

Feelings often surprise us out of nowhere. Sometimes it’s just how the days go while we are grieving a loss. The human heart has to find a new balance in the absence of a loved one, and it’s a messy, unpredictable process to navigate.

What might happen if we treated ourselves with kindness when our internal landscape feels like this poor bird looks? I don’t know what life is like for you today, but if you see yourself in the bird or the poem, I wish you kindness. Gentleness for the parts of you that are feel out of sorts. Go gently, friends.
