“Flooded”

Grief has surprising ways of showing up. The tsunami warning earlier this month got me thinking about the similarities.

“Flooded”

All laid bare as death recedes

fast incoming tide follows

surprisingly swift, this grief

dredging up buried feelings

photographs of moments gone

memories dear and

those we'd rather forget

propelling this wreckage of us far ashore

quiet eerie pause

as if to leave it there

then haha no

waters spin an abrupt about face

tumbling my heart in sorrow's churn

gathered loot hoarded

hissing stampede back out to sea

flinging its plunder to the rising crest

of the tsunami

everyone knew would come.

…….

Wishing you the strongest of anchors in surprising challenges.
